This national program empowers college students to partner with a nonprofit of their choice, design an impactful project, and secure funding for a virtual, project-based internship aligned with their passions.

  • The Building Capacity, Careers, & Community (BCCC) Internship Initiative is a paid remote internship program that connects college students with nonprofits to co-design and implement meaningful environmental projects. This initiative benefits universities by:

    • Expanding career pathways through hands-on, project-based learning.

    • Providing fully funded internship opportunities that remove financial barriers.

    • Strengthening nonprofit partnerships that enhance student engagement.

    • Developing students’ leadership and nonprofit management skills.

  • Universities can join the Consortium to share this opportunity with students and help provide priority access to fully funded internships. Faculty, departments, or career offices can participate by:

    • Sharing program details via listservs, newsletters, and career services.

    • Encouraging students to apply and secure nonprofit partnerships.

    • Serving as references for student applications.

  • No. Students can apply and find their own nonprofit independently. However, professors and departments that join the Consortium will get priority access and additional support for students seeking internships.

  • By joining the Consortium, universities can:

    • Give their students priority access to funded internship placements.

    • Receive program resources to easily distribute to students.

    • Showcase their leadership in career development and sustainability.

    • Strengthen nonprofit partnerships that benefit future students.

  • Joining the Consortium is low-commitment and free.

  • Yes! While students are responsible for securing their nonprofit partner, universities can assist their students by:

    • Connect students with nonprofits they already collaborate with.

    • Encourage students to reach out to alumni working in nonprofit roles.

    • Offer guidance through career services, faculty advisors, or sustainability offices.

  • Students at participating universities may receive priority review for internship spots. Professors and departments that join the Consortium can help their students by:

    • Encouraging students to apply and sharing distributed materials.

    • Providing a faculty reference during the application process.

  • Yes! Multiple departments, career centers, and faculty members can join and share the opportunity with their students. This is especially beneficial for programs in environmental studies, public policy, business, communications, and nonprofit management.

  • No. There is no cost for universities, professors, or students to participate in the Consortium.

  • No, but if colleges have existing funding to support students, we can work with them to supplement the cost.

    • Some internships are funded-through nonprofit cost-shares.

    • Some universities use existing internship funding to support students while still benefiting from the program’s mentorship and professional development.

  • Faculty and staff are not required to mentor students but can provide guidance on project development or nonprofit selection if they choose.

  • We provide ready-to-share resources including:

    • Informational Flyers

    • Virtual info sessions for students and faculty.

    • FAQs and guidance on nonprofit selection.

    Universities can distribute these through career centers, student organizations, sustainability offices, faculty advisors, and newsletters.
