We have two processes. One option is for a nonprofit to submit a job description and The VirtualIntern will match them with a student. The other is for students to contact host organizations directly to create their internship. If you are interested in hosting but have not yet been approached by a student, you can join our network to be matched with potential interns. Simply express interest by filling out this form and we’ll share opportunities as they become available.
-
Yes! Nonprofits can host multiple interns if they have the capacity to provide supervision and meaningful projects. Additional grants may be available.
-
To avoid conflicts of interest:
Interns cannot be supervised by a family member or work in an organization where they serve in a leadership role.
Past employees or board members may be eligible but must receive independent supervision.
-
Applications are reviewed based on project feasibility, student qualifications, and program capacity.
Final decisions are made, and accepted nonprofits will be notified before the internship start date.
-
If an intern or nonprofit needs to withdraw, we require immediate notification to adjust placements and funding allocations. Late withdrawals may impact future participation eligibility.
-
Yes! Nonprofit supervisors are invited to a pre-internship orientation that covers best practices in mentorship, remote supervision, and intern engagement strategies.
-
This is a fully remote internship. However, if both the nonprofit and intern are located in the same area and wish to incorporate occasional in-person work, that may be allowed with mutual agreement.
